ADAO congratulates Heather Von St. James, inspirational Mesothelioma Warrior, friend, and ADAO supporter for hosting another successful Annual Lungleavin’ Day Celebration on February 17!  Heather and her family have coordinated the even over the last 12 years, since she was diagnosed with, and underwent surgery for pleural mesothelioma.

As Heather says, “The love and support not only from the meso community, but the cancer community blows me away. I think the opportunity to celebrate life, and survival of cancer is a big deal to everyone and it changes the narrative on cancer by opening up conversations with people that they wouldn’t have a chance to otherwise.”

More than 50 people gathered to raise asbestos and mesothelioma awareness and funds for ADAO and MARF. Although this years event is over, our fight still remains. ADAO is fighting harder than ever and we still need your support!

In memory of Jaz “Tuala” McGuire.

As Heather shared, “The tradition is to take a plate, and on said plate, you write your fears, obstacles, or anything that is holding you back. Then you take your plate into our back yard where my husband Cameron has a huge bonfire roaring in the fire pit. Take your plate, and smash it in the fire… along with your fears. It is a very cathartic release!”

Donations are still being accepted here!

ADAO is so proud of Heather and her family, and we hope that others are inspired by her initiative to make change happen. To learn more about this incredible woman, check out her Share Your Story, “The Value of My Life in Dollars and Tears,” or follow her “Heather’s Hope” blog.

When we come together to smash our fears, change is possible.
