Earl Dotter, occupational photojournalist and member of the ADAO family, is releasing a new book with a companion photo exhibit called LIFE’S WORK, A Fifty Year Photographic Chronicle of Working in the U.S.A. The book launch/exhibit event will take place on Thursday, September 13th at the AFL-CIO Headquarters, 815 16th Street NW, Washington, DC, at 5:00 pm.

Given Earl Dotter’s long-term commitment to documenting workers in the United States, he has been referred to as the “American Worker’s Poet Laureate.” Twenty years ago, Earl published the book, THE QUIET SICKNESS, A Photographic Chronicle of Hazardous Work in America.

Earl’s new book is organized by photo exhibits beginning with his exhibit, IN OUR BLOOD, Coal Miners in the 1970’sand continues through to his current exhibit, BADGES, A Memorial Tribute to Asbestos Workers, which the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) has been a proud sponsor of since its inception. There are 13 exhibits presented in Earl’s new book. At the back of each exhibit-chapter is a double page illustrated occupational health and safety-related spread that expands upon what each chapter/exhibit is about, with commentary by from experts including David Michaels, Barry Castleman, Scott Schneider, Rebecca Reindel and Peg Seminario. Earl’s LIFE’S WORK exhibit will be on view at the AFL-CIO until November 29, 2018, free open to the public, Monday – Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm, until November 29th. The exhibit will then move to the 2018 Baltimore National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) Conference in early December.

Congratulations Earl on your great work, and the exciting release of your newest book. It’s been an honor and a privilege to work with you on four of your BADGES exhibits displayed at ADAO Conferences since 2015. The first exhibit poster was dedicated to Dr. Irving J. Selikoff, the second was dedicated to bringing the tragic stories of asbestos exposure into today’s era, the third was dedicated to TSCA Champion Barbara Boxer, and the fourth was dedicated to Asbestos Fighters.
 
Earl shared, “Each poster, along with the BADGES, exhibits, has presented important historical and current actions toward a total worldwide asbestos ban.” ADAO looks forward to Earl’s 2019 exhibit at our 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference in Washington, D.C.
