ADAO is pleased to share that our Tenth Virtual Zoom Event on Tuesday, March 11 —  featuring Dr. Celeste Monforton and Mark Catlin — was a roaring success! Thanks to our dedicated experts, ADAO’s prevention and policy efforts continue to make landmark steps forward.

Attendees listened live to our esteemed speakers discuss the history of asbestos and legacy asbestos; the impact of asbestos exposure, including high-risk occupations and early warning symptoms; the ongoing health threat from legacy asbestos; asbestos in the workplace, and more. During the call, we discussed many resources, including:

During the event, Mark and Celeste affirmed that the only way we can prevent asbestos and clean up the problem of legacy asbestos is a comprehensive ban. We look to Congress to make the 2021 Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act a priority to protect Americans from preventable and deadly diseases. We ended the meeting with our experts’ messages to Congress, both of them asking Congress to take action towards protecting American lives by banning asbestos and removing legacy asbestos in order to prevent future exposures.

During the call, ADAO also announced we will be hosting an art and advocacy event the Friday before our Virtual 16th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference. The art and advocacy event will host a number of films from filmmakers who have been personally affected by asbestos and will be screened virtually throughout the day on Friday, September 17th. The following day, Saturday, September 18th, is  ADAO’s academic conference.

Make sure to sign up for our monthly eNewsletters for more information on upcoming Zoom conversations, our conference, breaking asbestos news, and more.

Together, we will make change possible.
