Submit Your Six-Word Quote to Congress

ADAO’s #Message2Congress campaign is yet again underway as we dive into the New Year, giving you a chance to speak directly to the officials you elected to represent you in Congress.

If you had the attention of your elected officials in Congress, what would you tell them about asbestos? This year, we’re conducting our 13th “Six-Word Quote” campaign to collectively raise our voices in support of federal legislation to ban asbestos, without loopholes or exemptions. This #Message2Congress is your chance to speak directly to your representatives, and say loud and clear that you want to bring an end to this man-made asbestos disaster.

Collectively, our shared experience and stories speak loudly. When we come forward and speak as one, Congress listens. In the new year, we will continue working with federal agencies and Congress to prevent exposure to eliminate all asbestos-caused diseases, and you can help us!

Participating is a snap, simply fill out our Ban Asbestos Message to Congress form with your 6-word message and a photo of you/your loved one to accompany the quote, and we will design your personalized quote graphic.

ADAO will share your graphic throughout the year with the media, Congress, and on our social media platforms. The submission deadline to be included in this album is Friday, February 17, 2023.

During previous years, we have received hundreds of 6-word quotes from Mesothelioma Warriors, asbestos workers, teachers, and concerned citizens from around the world. Some, like the one we received from Marilyn in Pennsylvania — “He should be enjoying retirement now” — were personal and impactful. It is words like these that truly make a difference in our efforts to get Congress to realize the dangers of asbestos and take action.

The #Message2Congress campaign is your chance to help bring light to the man-made asbestos crisis we are still fighting today. Over 40,000 Americans die each year from asbestos-caused illnesses.

In this David-and-Goliath battle, our community and collective voice are our strongest weapon. Your voice ignites real change and there are many ways to use it! Sharing your story, sending a personal message to Congress, inviting your representatives to ADAO’s Annual Congressional staff briefings, joining ADAO for a virtual meeting with your members to ban asbestos, and so much more. Sharing your story with ADAO goes a long way. Remember, with each post, share, or retweet, you are raising asbestos and mesothelioma awareness which could save lives. Let’s keep the conversation going to drive social change.

We look forward to sharing your story.

Together, we are making change happen.
