ADAO 20th Anniversary — Join Us in Our Year-Round Monthly Journeys of Asbestos Awareness, Advocacy, and Action

Posted on May 29, 2024

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) stands in solidarity with colleagues, trade unions, and occupational safety and health (OSH) advocates who work tirelessly to secure workers’ rights globally. That’s why every year, we dedicate the month of May to promoting safer working conditions and, in turn, preventing potentially lethal asbestos exposure.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization is deeply involved in advocacy efforts emphasizing everyone’s right to a safe working environment. A worker’s health doesn’t just impact them; it can also affect their families and reverberate through communities. Safe working conditions are not just a worker’s right but essential to the well-being of entire families and communities. This understanding catalyzes our participation in International Workers’ Memorial Day on April 28, 2024, advocating for robust workplace safety standards.

Throughout history, workers have had to fight to force employers to prioritize worker safety over company profits. Today’s workers are no different, as industry players continue to fight against regulations that will protect workers from deadly asbestos fibers.

We stand in solidarity with the trade unions that lead these efforts by educating their members on preventive measures and shaping safety policies to protect workers. Their active role ensures that safety discussions translate into tangible protections, making workplaces safer for everyone.

ADAO promotes prevention through events like our recent webinar, “Legacy Asbestos: Understanding Risks, Prevention, and New Regulations.” The webinar educated people on asbestos risk management and promoted preventive measures. View our webinar page for more helpful resources for workers and communities. Initiatives like Global Asbestos Awareness Week (April 1-7) also focus on worker safety and prevention strategies, with Day Five specifically dedicated to these meaningful cornerstones.

ADAO remains committed to advocating for the necessary changes to ensure safe workplaces free from asbestos exposure, protecting workers and their families worldwide. For more resources and information, please visit our event pages, which are linked below.
