Friday, July 7 is Action Mesothelioma Day in the UK. Organizations throughout the country will host events to raise awareness about mesothelioma and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease. Tragically, Great Britain has one of the highest per capita rates of mesothelioma in the world.

According to the Cancer Research UK, in 2014 there were:

  • 2717 Mesothelioma cases
  • 2567 Mesothelioma deaths
  • 94% Mesothelioma cases were preventable

London Hazards has a fabulous line up of speakers for their London Action Mesothelioma Day event this year, including Alison Cook , Director of Policy at the British Lung Foundation (BLF); Dr. Peter Szlosarek, St Bart’s Hospital; Brendan Tully, US attorney; Bill Lawrence, Secretary of Construction Safety Campaign (CSC), Harminder Bains, Leigh Day of London, and others. The daylong program, led by LHC Director Phillip Lewis also includes a brief memorial and dove release to honor those lost to mesothelioma.

At a number of tandem events across the country, participants will release doves and balloons as a poignant symbol of the countless individuals and families who have been affected by mesothelioma. Below is a list of just some of the educational and memorial events throughout the United Kingdom.
