Tired of asking the fox to guard the henhouse for information? We have taken a significant step forward in compiling the 2023 Comprehensive Asbestos Report: The Analysis of Imports, Use, Impact on Human Health, and Current Regulations and Policy. This report is now available online for immediate access and centralizes crucial, yet often buried and obscured information. It builds from historical congressional testimonies, presentations, and intensive research to offer the most recent data and statistics for congressional members, the media, and the public. A standout feature is the newfound support for our bill from Scott Sutton, CEO of Olin Corporation, leaving OxyChem as the sole corporation still engaging in asbestos importation.
Two decades ago, the painful revelation that my husband, Alan Reinstein, had fatal mesothelioma due to undisclosed asbestos exposure, forever altered the trajectory of our family’s lives. His tragic passing in 2006 fueled my unyielding commitment to comprehensive research and education about asbestos. The robust information contained in this report collected, analyzed, and reported in partnership with our many allies and advisors empowers my testimonies, briefings, and presentations, offering a beacon of truth amidst a sea of industrial misinformation.
The stark reality is unwavering – over 40,000 Americans succumb to asbestos-related diseases annually. This staggering toll will relentlessly climb unless we unite to irrevocably ban asbestos. The release of this report symbolizes not only an enlightenment but a clarion call for immediate action. It underscores the urgency of advocating for the expeditious passage of the bipartisan Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act of 2023. The time to act is now – together, let’s dismantle the fox’s guard over the henhouse and pave a path for a future untainted by asbestos, safeguarding the well-being and health of countless individuals.
